Angel says to me that he needs a signature on his agenda, because he forgot to do his English homework. I am annoyed with him; this is a reoccurring thing with him. I replied stating that he has an agenda specifically for the purpose of keeping track of assignments. I remembered that he failed to fill out his agenda the day before. I reminded him that we talked about making sure he writes in his agenda and about double checking his work to make sure it is finished. I wondered if he is getting zeros to punish me. We had an argument the other day where he felt that he needed to use the computer so he can do his geography homework, I didn’t let him because he is still grounded. We have an accurate atlas, and globe, that has all the information he needed. He threatened to just take a zero if he could not get on the computer. I tried my best to explain to him that even if life beats us down, we always pick ourselves up, with heads held high, and keep on going. That we do not quit in this family. As we pulled in to the parking lot I hoped that he really heard me.
We headed in the office. I was greeted with a polite smile from the receptionist. I signed in. She warmed up to friendly when I gave her the referral from Dr. VonDrak, the Orthodontist. She even commented that she likes me because I had everything she needed. She gave me some forms to fill out. I finished the forms and gave them back to her. I offered up Angels Medicaid card when she didn’t ask for insurance. She looked at the blue card and her smile turned into a pretentious gasp; “we don’t take THAT” she scoffed at me. I imagined that she thought we were low income, living off welfare. I wanted to curse at her and tell her that we probably made more money than her, and that my son got Medicaid because his natural father is in prison and not in the picture. Just because he gets Medicaid does not mean that we deserve to be treated like trash. But I squelched my immediate reaction, knowing that I react strongly at times. She tells me that she wishes she would have known about the Medicaid, implying that it was my fault she never asked me about insurance beforehand. I told her that I wished I would have known too. I told her that I could not do the appointment. She offered that the consultation was only $60, I normally would have paid the $60 and gone ahead with the appointment, but with the employment situation that Jon’s going to be in next week, I declined. A $60 consultation will quickly turn into an expensive surgery. I asked her if they took CMS remembering that he is covered by them if anyone does not accept Medicaid. With a look of disdain, she shook her head no. So we left. I had every intention of calling up Dr. VonDrak’s office and scolding them. How could they refer me to someone that does not take our insurance? I remembered that they treated me with the same attitude about the Medicaid when they bought out the old orthodontist. I realized that they don’t take on new patients that have Medicaid. They have to accept Medicaid from Angel because Dr. VonDrak is part of the Cleft Palate Team. So I reconsidered, and decided to call them once I had calmed down.
As much as I want to quit everything that is causing me stress, I will be true to my words and I will not quit. Keep on keeping on is my motto of the day.

Hang in there, Rachel. Hold your head high and keep on keeping on!
I typed out a long comment about this, and something was going on either with blogger or my computer. Anyway, you took the high road here, and it sucks because I'm sure it hurt to bite your tongue. I'd definitely put in a call to both dentist's office voicing your displeasure. Regardless of what type of insurance you may have, no one should treat you like that.
